The European Commission has said that it is unlikely that US President-elect Donald Trump will send American troops to take over Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, once he is back in the White House. However, Brussels stressed that the sovereignty of EU member-states must be respected.
During a press-conference on Tuesday, Trump refused to rule out the possibility of using military force to bring Greenland and the Panama Canal under the control of Washington. “It might be that you will have to do something… We need Greenland for national security purposes,” he said.
Later in the day, the European Commission’s chief spokesperson, Paula Pinho, described the US President-elect’s comments as “highly speculative.”
“There are many threats that do not materialize, and at this stage, we do not believe it is necessary to go beyond this,” she said.
Pinho confirmed that an attack on Greenland would activate the EU’s mutual defense assistance clause under Article 42(7) of the bloc’s treaty, but stressed that “we are discussing a highly theoretical issue.”
Well, obviously, the EU can’t go to war with the United States. That is ridiculous. The EU has no army at all. Turkey’s army is much bigger and better than all of the EU countries.
If Trump invades Greenland, the EU will just have to take it.

Trump recently said that Canada is totally dependent on exporting its cars to the United States and the US doesn’t need them, so Trump is obviously ignorant that a large part of the cars made in Canada are by US owned companies like GM and Ford. If Trump puts large tariffs on cars imported into the US from Canada, he’ll be shooting US owned companies in the foot.

Congress voted on Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Libya assistance to the rebels was NATO led based on a UN resolution.
It is true that presidents have been allowed to send small forces or launch a few missiles on their own. Kind of a gray area but in a full scale invasion Congress could easily draw up a bill to retract any force.
