I think it was a signal to Obama from the GOP Congress that if he tries any more of his extralegal BS, and Bammie has certainly said he’s free to do what he damned well pleases his last two years, that he is going to be like dirt by the other branch of government and utterly disrespected. The GOP members in the House and Senate have to be sick of this guy by now. I was tired of him years ago.

If you take the podium away from a guy who always wants to be the center of attention (Obama) and give it to one of his rivals, it will sting our pesky, narcissistic Prezzy’s ego worse than a taser. At least a few members of the Republican leadership know him well enough to be aware of this, which is why the invite went out to Bibi.

I want US citizens to know that the rest of the World is having a hearty laugh at this spectacle of US shame. It’s certainly an extraordinary event in history. I can’t think of any historical precedent for the Israeli-American relationship. The foreign policy of a great power is very highly influenced by a small country on the other side of the globe. It doesn’t seem real but it is.

Clearly there is little loyalty to America on the part of much of Congress. On the other hand polls indicate that most Americans doubt that Obama has any love of or loyalty to America. The fate of the American people is in the hands of politicians who view ordinary Americans with a mixture of contempt and indifference.

No–that’s a misleading comparison. Churchill may have had the “last lion” image but he was a beggar and a pleader in his relationship with the US. Also, FDR and other American leaders judged–independently of any argument Churchill could make–that the US should work to involve itself in war against Germany and Japan. And although the events of decades previous that led up to WW II were complex, it’s hard to argue that the US would have been better off with Axis victories. As the war went on, Churchill became more and more marginalized, and after the war, we essentially used financial extortion to drive the dismantling of the Empire and Imperial Preference. Churchill got little more than a handshake. This kicking to the curb was capped off with Ike’s smackdown of Churchill’s designated successor, Eden.

We can admire lots of things, but that’s hardly the issue. What course should we be charting for ourselves (Americans)? Many people have admired the German army.
