On April 4, 1967, exactly one year before his assassination, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stepped up to the lectern at the Riverside Church in Manhattan. The United States had been in active combat in Vietnam for two years and tens of thousands of people had been killed, including some 10,000 American troops. The political establishment — from left to right — backed the war, and more than 400,000 American service members were in Vietnam, their lives on the line.
Many of King’s strongest allies urged him to remain silent about the war or at least to soft-pedal any criticism. They knew that if he told the whole truth about the unjust and disastrous war he would be falsely labeled a Communist, suffer retaliation and severe backlash, alienate supporters and threaten the fragile progress of the civil rights movement.
King rejected all the well-meaning advice and said, “I come to this magnificent house of worship tonight because my conscience leaves me no other choice.” Quoting a statement by the Clergy and Laymen Concerned About Vietnam, he said, “A time comes when silence is betrayal” and added, “that time has come for us in relation to Vietnam.”
It was a lonely, moral stance. And it cost him. But it set an example of what is required of us if we are to honor our deepest values in times of crisis, even when silence would better serve our personal interests or the communities and causes we hold most dear. It’s what I think about when I go over the excuses and rationalizations that have kept me largely silent on one of the great moral challenges of our time: the crisis in Israel-Palestine.
I have not been alone. Until very recently, the entire Congress has remained mostly silent on the human rights nightmare that has unfolded in the occupied territories. Our elected representatives, who operate in a political environment where Israel’s political lobby holds well-documented power, have consistently minimized and deflected criticism of the State of Israel, even as it has grown more emboldened in its occupation of Palestinian territory and adopted some practices reminiscent of apartheid in South Africa and Jim Crow segregation in the United States.
Many civil rights activists and organizations have remained silent as well, not because they lack concern or sympathy for the Palestinian people, but because they fear loss of funding from foundations, and false charges of anti-Semitism. They worry, as I once did, that their important social justice work will be compromised or discredited by smear campaigns.
Similarly, many students are fearful of expressing support for Palestinian rights because of the McCarthyite tactics of secret organizations like Canary Mission, which blacklists those who publicly dare to support boycotts against Israel, jeopardizing their employment prospects and future careers.
It’s a small step in the right direction.
Michelle Alexander is lying through her teeth; she knows it, and we know it. The “rationalization” for staying “largely silent”on Israel is that she was dependent on Jewish goodwill to get where she is today.
(See bio for Michelle Alexander [comment #11]. TLDR: Black father, White gentile mother; race-hustled way to the top; remains an aggressive race-grievance-monger.)
Now that Michelle has arrived at what is likely her highest perch in the system (as of late 2018 appointed Op-Ed columnist in the most prestigious of all regime media), she is willing to meekly criticize Israel.
Don’t be surprised if the Times quietly severs ties with her in 2019 over this.
The NYT runs these marginally ‘woke’ essays now and then on the topic of Palestine, but–spoiler alert–nothing ever changes. For example, the NYT’s reporting on actual events there remains as lopsided in favor of Likud as ever. So it’s just a matter of the NYT burnishing its hip cred more than anything else. Their hearts aren’t in it. But just look how virtuous they are.
“Reminiscent of apartheid”??? Remind me of the last time the white government in S.A. ever slaughtered 1500 blacks at a time, as Israel does in Gaza and Lebanon. Show me the shanty town replicas on America’s college campuses in support of the Palestinians.
Rumor has it that their Jerusalem Bureau was or is in a confiscated Palestinian house.
In any event, much of their largely progressive subscriber base (including many Jewish readers) is probably disillusioned with right-wing Israeli policies, so they have to straddle the line now and then to appear balanced.
Based on past performance, you’d assume she’s a goner. But she’s black, so it’s possible they’ll settle for silence.
I read the link you provided. The link seems to confirm the fact that she has a black father and a white mother. Everything else seems doubtful to me, or not confirmed clearly by the link. Why does she depend on “Jewish goodwill”? Are Jews the owner of the country? You speak about “Jewish goodwill”, but in fact you seem to be taking about “Jewish badwill”. You seem to be saying that if she doesn’t do what Jews want her to do, and instead of that speaks freely according to what she thinks, there will be retaliation against her. Is this what happens with US Congressmen?
What silence? I hear criticism of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians daily (perhaps even hourly) when I read non-MSM sites.
This forum’s responsible about such criticism, (Ron Unz is spot on) as is Zerohedge.com. Antiwar.com is likewise.
We cannot build a wall that keeps out illegal aliens from Central America because that is not who we are.
However, we can help finance Israeli walls (billions of dollars every year to an Israel that is richer than most countries) that keep out ethnically-cleansed Palestinian natives and African blacks because that is who we are.
It takes people with the mind of a Chuck Schumer to reconcile such cognitive dissonance.
Israel is worse than South Africa ever was. I lived there!
Geesh man where have you been? Yes. Blacklisted, unable to make a living, no chance for reelection in congress. That’s the Power of the Cabal.
Has anybody seen Rick Sanchez? LOL
If the NYT is only starting a supposed campaign to break the silence (“liberal” [read: Jewish] media blackout) on Palestine in 2018, a full generation after these people were first put into their cage, then this campaign should only be considered with suspicion.
A sincere campaign would have begun within a few years of their imprisonment. On the other hand, whatever this is needs to be considered to be some sort of strange duplicitous strategy by the Jewish news.
If they were sincere, they would have long ago been beating the drum for Palestine until Israel was forced, militarily or otherwise, to release the millions of perfectly innocent men, women, and children whose lives the Jews have taken complete ownership of.
Instead, the Palestinians were ignored while the typical Jewish allies like Blacks (witting or not) were supported and enemies (Whites) were attacked.
In Israel, the Palestinians have long ago been framed as “Amalek”, who is the archetypal Jewish enemy that their religion demands be utterly genocided. The Jews are masters at framing their complete victims as their oppressors, in typical beast-like fashion.
Even given that this type of rhetoric, and worse, was long ago and regularly emanating from powerful Rabbis and politicians in Israel, the American Press chose to stay silent.
In recent memory, what that looked like was powerful Jewish groups, in concert with the press, crying every time the Europeans or Americans wanted to get more strict on immigration (even as millions of no-skill Africans were pouring in, and after millions of Mexicans have). All the while ignoring the Palestinians and the Israeli ethnostate and its various measures that are designed to keep it that way.
These duplicitous politics are not a mystery. They are a reflection of the Jewish Torah and the type of world that it calls for.
No one should take the NYT’s lip service in regard to the Palestinians on face value. They have not suddenly woken up. There is something else afoot.
In reality, every time they and the rest of the Jewish press are given any type of platform then expect subversion. Expect an effort to move their agenda forward. Entertaining their input is to let them in, and letting them in is to agree to our destruction: as proclaimed in the Torah.
when I noticed that “Michelle Alexander”
was a “woman of color”,
I read no further. It takes a a degree of courage
for an ashkenaz-in-‘Murka to come out
against Israhell. For a double-entitlee (Black+female) to do it,
it takes none at all. She’ll keep getting the
(((paycheck))).
One answer to this is that in today’s USA, no one rises to the top who has known anti-Zionist politics (much less some kind of anti-Jewish ethnic-grievance politics, especially not if a White-Christian, though the latter would be merely a mirrored version of the politics of many Jewish leftists by their own account). While this is a remarkable phenomenon, it is all the more remarkable for the total absence of any mention of such in our dear “MSM.” (It is mentioned/covered at Unz.com.)
People rising up in the system “know their role, and shut their mouth” (so to speak). Michelle Alexander was one.
Can’t ensure full pre-emptive ideological control, tho, so sometimes there are takedowns.
There have been a few anti-Israel Congressmen. Their careers tend to end up destroyed, their names forgotten. Poor Congressman Jim Trafficant ended up expelled from Congress and in a prison cell. The wrath of the Israel Lobby, which he opposed. Black critic of Israel Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney was taken down a few years after Trafficant and was forced out of Congress.
Not directly relevant to Michelle Alexander, you may say. True. The point is, critics of Jews/Israel never rise to the top in the ‘system’ in today’s USA and those who somehow do are crushed. I would love to see a counter example.
It would be a biographer’s task to find exactly who helped Michelle Alexander, and in what ways, along her personal rise to the heights of prestige in our system. The odds are good that a disproportionate share of her benefactors have been Jewish. Her career got started at a Jewish law firm. Her next big move was to the ACLU of Northern California. I’ll bet you good odds that there were a lot of Jews in that organization, far more than their national population percentage. A glance at the names on their present-day Board of Directors suggests as much.
As for the very recent promotion to prestigious position of NYT Op-Ed columnist, consider who made the decision. Who has control over such decisions at the New York Times? The Opinion Editor is a James Bennet, of Polish-Jewish descent. And then there is this:
In a recent Steve Sailer thread, commenter DFH [in comment-34] lists the fourteen regular New York Times Op-Ed columnists. Repliers corrected two errors, leaving a count of:
– 7 Jews;
– 5 White-Christians, who have collectively more Catholic than Protestant ancestry;
– 2 Blacks (Charles M. Blow and Michelle Alexander).
How is it that Jews are 50% of NYT Op-Ed columnists?
A sister of my Irish mother married a South African farmer and lived there until she died. She was one of the 3 matrons at one of the biggest hospitals in the world for a great many years – in Soweto and near Johannesburg. Almost all the patients were black.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Hani_Baragwanath_Hospital
Can you imagine a Jewish Israeli woman doing something similar in a Palestinian hospital?
Did the Whites in South Africa ever bomb by artillery and plane and with white phosphorus Soweto?
The truth – which the lying Jewish-controlled media will never tell you – is that the Boers of South Africa were there long before the Zulus. The Zulus/Bantus came from further north and exterminated the blacks who were there before them. Never any mention of that in the media.
Excellent comment.
Speaking of what whites did, as I understand it, the Brits are to be condemned for what they did to the Boers, but I must admit to knowing very very little about SA. The little I know is from reading Douglas Reed and I’m pretty sure that he would agree with you about who was there first. He also mentioned that apartheid was desired and worked well for both the black and white populations initially.
I wouldn’t doubt that the country is now ruled by the usual “resource magnates” with lackey blacks as the nominal and visible leaders.
Would like to see more of your comments on Ilana Mercer’s articles.
The Government owns 100% of the media to serve corporate interests. They form all the opinions. Michelle Alexander, Philip Giraldi, Linh Dinh, Noam Chomsky, Amy Goodman you name ’em – the mind control methods differ in style slightly but the theater is all the same. Note that this is never antisemitism as much as it encourages the sheep to bleet their own antisemitism. This keeps the audience divided, afraid, disabled, stupid and controlled.
All? Where’s “never-anonymous” on the list?
It’s tempting to have sympathy for pro-Palestinians who are having their free speech shut down with charges of anti-Semitism.
But you have to remember these people are also leftists who, in a heartbeat, would also shut down any speech they disagree with as “Islamophobic,” “Racist,” or whatever.
So I am conflicted. Even if their criticism of Israel is totally accurate, I also kind of enjoy seeing some woke SJWs getting a dose of their own medicine.
To echo Kissinger’s comment about the Iran-Iraq war, I wish the Jews and Palestinians could both lose this battle.
When I was in college n the late 1960s, I would travel to Israel/Palestine to work on excavation sites with the Israelis, and every summer I heard Israelis make statements that were far more racist than anything I ever heard growing up in the South. When I spent nearly a year there, after grad school, one day I heard an recent immigrant say: “Judaism is not my religion, for I do not believe in God at all. Judaism is my race.” Twenty of the twenty three students in my Ulpan class, in the room at the time, agreed with this when I asked for a show of hands.
In my extensive foreign travels I learned to be totally ashamed of being an American, and after working for the UN in Afghanistan for four years 2000-2003, I was so appalled that I moved to Canada. In recent years I am delighted to see the Americans and the Israelis keep getting worse and worse, for I know my history. and it is very clear that this course will one day soon destroy both the Americans and these Khazars pretending to be a modern Israel.
is yours a true story or wishful thinking??? and don’t lump all Americans in with the khazars because the vast majority of educated people in the US dont like them and want nothing to do with them.
Henry Kissinger got his wish. Both lost the battle.
That goes perhaps a long way towards explaining certain prejudices.
correction:
‘The Media’ IS the government.

LOL. As if Jews don’t do the very things you mentioned of Arabs.
The entire matter would be resolved overnight if Jews knew that their scam / skim of billions of US taxpayers money every year was over. The huge costs of their monstrous behavior toward Palestinians would no longer be paid by the US.
Add in ending the enormous costs of wars for Israeli interests and everything would change.
Israel is parasite state that simply would not exist as we now know it without other peoples money.
Let Arabs be Arabs … over there.

Jews & their leftist shills strongly support Israeli immigration laws which mandate JEWS ONLY … while they demand massive 3rd world immigration into the US & Europe.
Israel forbids dual-citizens from serving in their Knesset, the US Congress is filled with Israeli dual-citizens.
Two problems with your question. First, the US Congressmen do not think (or if some do, they keep their thoughts to themselves). Second, when was the last time any US Congressman said anything true about anything, particularly about Israeli apartheid? Nothing comes to mind.
I stopped reading the times, this year. Their allowance of her article is to bolster the Times non-partisan narrative. Of course, we all know better.
I was schooled on this once in the past. Six Corporations do own the MSM in the U.S. They’re Corporations which are shared by the stock-holders. But, those in the higher echelons of the MSM machine- employees are to the majority extent, Jewish-Americans and THERE you have the problem. I’m okay with giving the “under-trodden” their voice but, this whole social engineering MSM/ online social media/advertising SJW bs is over-the-top. Screw them. I’ll think for myself..
Has anyone noticed the absurd advertisements that air on TV since the beginning of 2018. Matress commercials with a white husband, a (white-looking) black wife and a black child (not a mulatto) child. I mean, can’t casting do better than that? What utter bs! I’m not the LEAST bit racist. I just don’t want to watch the “media” attempting to re-train me.
Because they, as a group, have made it their mission in life to obtain these positions to further the designs of their Social Justice Warrior mentality to the degradation of Media, in general, in the U.S. They are a scourge.
What I find intriguing is how much more effective the silencing of dissent on Palestine is now than in the past in the US at university campuses. I still don’t have a feel for why except maybe the BDS campaign attracted more dedicated efforts to control those spaces.
The soggy Arabians should take in the Arabs that have since 1967 called themselves Palestinians. Think of all the talented folks to add to their society! Then the Israelis could live in peace from the Med to the Jordan River, thus removing the need for foreign aid. Problem solved.
So the Times, which egged on every one of America’s wars-for-Israel, and found excuses for every one of Israel’s crimes against humanity, now lets a newly-hired black columnist tell some truth about the Chosen state that is mankind’s misfortune. Why now? Probably because more and more Americans were becoming resentful of Jewish control of media, Congress, and nearly everything else, all for the purpose of defending the indefensible. To release some of this dangerous build-up of “anti-Semitic” steam, the Times, like a good boiler-man, opened the valve a little.
No, the Jews go after black women just as they do everyone else.
They took out Georgia black congresswoman Cynthia McKinney for being pro Palestine.

It is not cognitive dissonance or hypocrisy. It is Jewish cognition. There is one rule for gentiles.
Another for the Jews. All perfectly logical for a people who conceive of themselves as THE Chosen.
