An American dying while trying to save invaders is an uncomfortably apt metaphor for the last few decades.

Our so-called “thought leaders” in the NYT, WP et al have been emphatic that foreigners are more legitimately American than U.S. citizens.

But even this quickly reduces to a matter of race. Because if US citizens were predominantly people of color, and migrants almost uniformly white, the gates would have been slammed shut many years ago.

The “cultural élite” are very skilful at window dressing, but at their core they are all about race hatred and little more. Permitting them to share and then to control the reins of power in this country is by far the worst thing that ever happened in the United States of America.

I don’t agree with Gregory Hood about DeSantis’s punishment of Disney. Disney certainly merits punishment, but David French is right that the government shouldn’t be punishing companies it disfavors. Is it not obvious that two sides can play at that game? However, I think Mr. Hood’s closing punch — “Unless Mr. French supports repealing the Civil Rights Act of 1965, which abolished freedom of association and destroyed constitutional rights, you can ignore his appeals to our freedoms.” — has a lot of validity. If we could restore freedom of association, 90 percent of Mr. Hood’s goals would be attainable.

DeSantis is not punishing Disney; he’s revoking the special status it’s had for years, that it never should have had. All around the country, giant corps such as WalMart have gotten tax breaks as communities scramble to bring their citizens crappy, minimum-wage jobs. As much as I dislike centralized regulations, a universal rule against tax breaks for specific companies would bring this practice to an end.

While some on the Left still worship the man, Lincoln is destined to be canceled because he supported an alternate 13th amendment guaranteeing the rights of states to chose slavery (as a lure to Confederates to come back peacefully) and because he advocated sending freed slaves to Africa.

Lincoln’s “support” of the Corwin Amendment was meaningless because the amendment was dead on arrival at the states. The votes were lacking to ratify it, as I explained here:

Confederate General Benning says that Georgia seceded to protect its slavery, and ranks tariffs as a secondary issue.

You’re apparently too dense to realize that the South seceded because it understood that even if all seven states that seceded and formed the Confederacy were to rejoin the Union and vote to ratify the Corwin Amendment, there would still not be enough states in favor of it to pass it and change the Constitution. Twenty-five votes in favor of Corwin’s Amendment would have been necessary to do that, and so it would never pass. The South could see the writing on the wall that eventually the North would force an amendment that would abolish slavery altogether.

You make a good point: Lincoln is used to drive US whites apart and it’s getting a bit late for that.

But the penny in the twitter post was making a pro-Lincoln point that’s absurd on its face. Having worked with or among working class blacks for many years, I can say with authority that there is no respect, not even a little, for any white politician living or dead, Lincoln included. Black college professors no longer pretend either. That part of American History is dead.

Ohhh nonsense. While I contend the voting rights act was unnecessary because we simply needed to enforce the law that process targeting one group and not applied to all was clearly a violation of the law,

the right to associate with whom one chose remains clearly available. You simply cannot bar citizens based on some benign trait from participating state activities, i.e. attending state and federally funded schools. Nor could you create arbitrary barriers or barriers inequitably enforced on one population.
