From the New York Times:
KABUL, Afghanistan — The winding road to Germany starts on the outskirts of Kabul, at the Ahmad Shah Baba bus depot.
This is where some of the youngest and poorest Afghans hoping to migrate to Europe gather each day to leave. If they carry a backpack at all, it is usually slack, with little inside. Some have begun hearing that there is one country eager to have them.
Yeah, but Ms. Merkel’s humanitarian spasm garnered a lot of Facebook Likes, so there’s that. Who knew that a mess of Afghans would take it seriously? Aren’t we yet living in a virtual world where there are no actual consequences to our gestures of moral superiority?
“I am trying to go to Germany,” Abdul Javed, 16, said after buying a bus ticket. “Hopefully I will pass this test and get there.” …
The ticket agent, Rahmatullah, says he does not have a bus headed all the way to Munich. But the equivalent of $14.50 secures a seat on the first leg of the journey, to Nimruz, a desolate province along Afghanistan’s border with Iran.
Until last year most of the teenagers headed toward Nimruz wanted to go no farther than Iran, to seek work as laborers. But these days, the province is better known as the first stop on the path to Europe.
Merkie, you’re doing a heckuva job!
I wonder what the J.D. Power Ratings of the number of flaws in new Mercedes and BMWs are going to be in a decade? That’s assuming the Merkeljugend ever put down the X-Box controls, get off their welfare-subsidized couches, and get factory jobs.
Which is a big If.
The third Afghan from the right. LOL.
The jumping jacks remind me of Vietnamese refugee kids who entered our school in 1979.
In gym class they did the most ridiculous version of jacks that we all fell down laughing.
At least Afghans are not being taught to ‘twerk’.

She’s just reversed course, Steve, and temporarily (?) reversed the Schengen agreement. What a chump. This was a Slick Willie/W/O level of statesmanship.
Aw come on. Why should the USA have all the lulz?
More seriously, we are now living in a world of political U-turns. A policy can be announced on Monday as the only possible course consistent with the principles of humanity, prove to be a disaster by Wednesday, and be reversed on Thursday. Alternative policies are totally out of the question right until they are implemented. It isn't just Merkel, it's happening all over the place, something like stock-market volatility amped up by machine trading.
Give it time.

Steve,
It’s what the English might call ‘taking a punt’ – ie taking a risk as in betting money on a horse.
The young Afghans, footloose and fancy free, are taking a gamble – at the cost to them of maybe a few hundred dollars – of starting a completely new life in Germany, and in the process being automatically eligible of the stock of wealth and goods the German people built up, supposedly for future generations of Germans, that is, a high income, lavish welfare, medical treatment, pensions, education, functioning state, rule of law, police protection, public goods etc etc – plus the ‘right’ to import relatives from back home to enjoy the same.
The only downside is the remote possibility that you might be sent back. In that case, all you’ve lost is a few hundred dollars.
Makes a lot of sense, right?
Dunno about those cars, but I’ve heard Afghan boys are big sluts. Doing jobs German boys won’t do, you know.
But, we now learn:

30k and you have an ISIS problem and need a Marshall Plan to handle “employment challenges”. Fortunately Minneapolis has a nice white lady mayor who understands the most important thing in her city is catering to the needs of malcontent Somalis.
What an idiot that mayor is. Somalis are not even an asset to Somalia. They're certainly no asset to any other place.
The Somali mini-vasion should be an object lesson to anyone advocating foreign military involvement. Any time we get militarily involved in a place, a stream of refugees is loosed and heads to our shores: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Central America, Somalia, and now Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. We have George H.W. Bush to thank for Somalia. He sent soldiers there, as a lame-duck in the last few weeks of his term. Clinton should have ordered them right back out.Replies: @Anonymous

Merkel appears to be getting cold feet about all this. Perhaps the docile population is in the process of being stirred up and that could be unpredictable. The US had been wiretapping her so perhaps gained some leverage over her. Could it be the US blackmailed her into letting her country become a sort of safety valve for those fleeing US sponsored wars?

Sort of off-topic, but here’s a heart-warming story of successful refugee integration in Canada. Consider the following elements:
1. Large intact family with seven kids. Our demographic problems are solved!!!
2. Father learning English, has a plan to open a Middle Eastern restaurant in Windsor. Culinary diversity is great, and it will help attract new growth to an economically depressed area. They’ll be off welfare in no time!
3. Their life in Syria and Lebanon wasn’t that good. They’re much happier here. Awesome!!!
4. A brother who was fighting Assad is in Turkey and is hoping to come to Canada soon. Families must not be separated.
5. The mom had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in Lebanon, but I’m sure it’s cured now, so we won’t have to pay a cent.

I don’t think the arrival of refugees has quite the same appeal if they come by bus. There’s something about trains in Germany, and huddled masses tramping through rural Europa that has a historic echo which appeals to those people most passionately advocating the Great Replacement. A full circle kind of thing.
The quality of mb and BMW has not been that good since the early 1990s, which is not really that related to immigration.
Doesn’t Mercedes already have the biggest gap between perceived and actual mechanical quality?
The electronics have went from expensive to insanely expensive in the last ten to fifteen years, and in addition, the engines and transmissions are becoming so expensive and difficult to work on internally the mechanical reliability edge is going away. Tool costs are now phenomenally high for engine work. While the actual failure rate is not all that high, when they do happen it can be catastrophic economically.

Europe’s population is at an all time high and so are their wealth and standard of living. In other words they have produced, but not overproduced for their capacity to maintain fantastic first world nations.
The problem with Europe, North America and Oceania does not have to do with not having kids. As others have pointed out, even if they still had a TFR of 3, so long as they continued to allow massive numbers of non-Europeans, they’d still be screwing themselves. The problem stems from a loss of confidence in their own civilization, either a feature or a bug of modern society, and its numbing effect on the natives’ instinct to defend their turf.
A Muslim woman is forbidden to marry a non-Muslim because this might lead to non-Muslim children. Meaning a waste of a perfectly good womb. You’re leaving out the good news. Whereas Afghanistan’s population was only 7.5 million in 1950, it is estimated to be around 32 million today and projected to be over 50 million by 2050. http://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/afghanistan-population/ So there is a strong likelihood of having more Afghanis doing jumping jacks in your neighborhood real soon. I remember an American general stating back in the early days of our war in Afghanistan that setting foot in Afghanistan is like stepping back into the Old Testament. That means Afghanistan is only 2000+ years behind us in terms of development. Maybe a little more AID money might help them close that small gap.
Yes, in the 2015 J. D. Power Initial Quality Study, M-B is ranked just slightly above the industry average and its [s]mart brand, though not made in Germany, is ranked second to last, just above Fiat. BMW does pretty well, but it still isn’t number one.
Actually, these rankings bounce around somewhat from year to year partly due to the introduction of new models which typically have more initial production flaws. Also, the rankings are partly based on owner complaints about specific design features. For example, if a car’s “infotainment” system is technically functional but confusing to use, it can drive down that model’s ranking even though the assembly line workers weren’t the ones who made a mistake.
Incidentally, of any model in the study, the BMW 3 Series made in Rosslyn, South Africa, was the top ranked car. Almost 99% of that city’s residents are black.
The Initial Quality Study rankings also contain many surprises. For example, Jaguar (a brand name that had almost become a byword for expensive repairs) has been ranked near the top for a few years now. Meanwhile, Scion (a Toyota nameplate) has been ranked near the bottom. I’m not saying that late-model Jaguars are bad or that Scions are good, just that their relative performance in this test runs counter to popular perceptions.
J.D. Power’s Vehicle Dependability Study is probably a more meaningful measure of actual quality and some of the ratings do agree with those of the Initial Quality Study. However, there are also some big contradictions. For example, Hyundai aces the Initial Quality Ratings while returning fairly poor results in the Vehicle Dependability rankings.
I’ve known plenty of people who’ve had poorly ranked cars and yet they got perfectly good service out of them. So with cars as with people, your mileage may vary.

Ordos – China’s Ghost City 19-DRWe arrived in Ordos sometime in the early hours of the morning, checked our bags into a hotel, and grabbed a beer for the road. The city centre is not a long way off completion: it has shops and apartments, cafés, bars and restaurants. For all this seeming normality however, downtown Ordos is presided over by a series of doom-struck towers, grey office buildings, flats and shopping malls – and most of them are completely empty.
We walked for a few hours, past restaurants, bars, casinos and sex shops. The lights were shining bright in every establishment, but the people were nowhere to be seen. Cutting through one backstreet, we passed the pink lights of a brothel. The shop front was lined in wide, glass windows, to expose a troupe of young girls stood as if on parade in a wardrobe of matching lingerie. These dozen-or-so prostitutes numbered more than any pedestrians we’d managed to count all evening.

My map reading might be wrong but Iran is not on the way to Germany from Kabul.
Going via central Asia to Russia to Poland to Germany is much more logistically difficult. Central Asian states take their border security with Afghanistan seriously to prevent jihadis from infiltrating, and the Uzbek or Kazakh police are not going to treat illegal infiltrators very gently if they resist. Afghans would stand out and be quite unwelcome in Russia and Poland, and couldn't easily blend into the population as they pass through.
In contrast the Iran route goes though only 2 countries to get you to the doorstop of Europe, where they can join the general migrant swarm. There are hundreds of thousands of Afghans in Iran who can provide networks and cover there as well.
Wonder when Merkel stands for re-election? I would hope that these policies of hers would encourage the opposition parties to run a credible campaign vs her whenever she stands for re-election.
No, these are our allies. The Taliban and its Pashtun followers have a bit better discipline.
The channel tunnel now has 10-15 hour delays and the formerly open borders of Austria Hungary Germany Netherlands and Slovakia are now closed and I assume chaotic and subject to long delays.

Eighteen months ago, or even a fortnight ago, at the outset of the imminvader clusterfuck waves did Angela Merkel’s lingo and all the other EU tongues lack a phrase corresponding to our English “Nip it in the bud”?
If only the Merkeljugend knew about the United States’ EB-5 visa program which allows big real-estate developers to sell green cards to foreigners with their families in return for just the interest cost on a $500,000 five-year CD (about $26,000 at 2%). Yep! Ten thousand (10,000) mostly-Chinese “investors” have purchased US green cards for themselves and their families this year for about $26,000 per family. All a foreigner has to do is deposit $500,000 with a big New York real-estate developer for five years instead of a getting a five-year bank CD at 2%. The real-estate investment comes with a coveted US permanent residency for the whole family– the CD does not even come with a toaster.
This is a wonderful deal. Most people who have heard of it probably think that each green card costs $500,000 but that is not the case. The $500,000 is just a deposit which is returned after several years. So the actual cost of the package is merely the interest which the deposit might have earned in an alternative investment– not much. And even that small amount of money buys not one but several green cards!

This exactly correct.
And from an HBD perspective, remember that one doesn’t just “build up” a complex functioning modern state like you build up a bunch of low-IQ foot soldiers to walk to see the magic black rock.
The road to this has taken many millennia for Germanics. As recently as in my father’s and mother’s lifetimes, Germany had everything destroyed utterly by forces hostile to her society and people. Twice. Three times for Eastern Germany.
Each rebuilding that the Germans conduct, others see fit to destroy it.
So the real issue is–why are so many people united in hating the order, prosperity, and high technology that Germanics can create?
Certain agents of mythification tried to convince us all in the 20th century that all Germans and Germanics and even Nordics and by extension white Scots-Irishmen in the US South were Satans. But it’s an idea that’s been losing traction for awhile, much to the chagrin of the agents of this mythification.
The primary error in all this geopolitical thinking is that politics and social policy can solve the gaps that exist where different human populations have evolved in different niches over thousands of years.
The idea is that all humans are basically the same and can be plugged interchangeably into any society. This is anti-science (and anti-evolution). But it’s where most liberal policymakers are.
It’s as though they feel so guilty about being part of a successful evolutionary current that others envy that they are willing to cash out their ancestors’ struggle, sweat, and blood to tax their children as as a way to appease their guilt. This is in my mind the primitive psychological mechanism of child sacrifice. For another example think of how the mass groomings/rapes of white girls in NORTHERN ENGLAND–the Viking heart of Anglo Europe–were excused. We all know that “they just can’t help themselves,” the poor savages from the South. But at what point does altruism become suicidal? (A very old topic in HBD discussions.)
Then there are the ones who aren’t of that genome, but pretend to be as it suits them, to off their genetic competitors who actually have it. But let’s not go there. It makes people cranky when this is discussed.
Religion helps women with their nesting and reproduction instincts. They feel they have a greater framework they are fitting into. This transcendental framework gives them security on the emotional level while the husband is there to provide it on the material and emotional levels. I can knock Islam but it provides this type security to their brainwashed women. Islam has one of the most powerful reproductive strategies with its polygamy that forces the lower status males *out* to find/marry infidel women by via conquest. Islam’s downside is it carries clannishness too far into generation upon generation of first cousin marriage which leads to brain damaged IQs and other birth defects.
A Muslim woman is forbidden to marry a non-Muslim because this might lead to non-Muslim children. Meaning a waste of a perfectly good womb. Muslim men can marry infidel women just so long as she converts prior to marriage. Thus another baby factory recruited for the Ummah and the Ummah is all about increasing its body count to swamp the infidels via hijra, reproduction and war.

Why they want Germany and Swedish in their own words:

It's what the English might call 'taking a punt' - ie taking a risk as in betting money on a horse.
The young Afghans, footloose and fancy free, are taking a gamble - at the cost to them of maybe a few hundred dollars - of starting a completely new life in Germany, and in the process being automatically eligible of the stock of wealth and goods the German people built up, supposedly for future generations of Germans, that is, a high income, lavish welfare, medical treatment, pensions, education, functioning state, rule of law, police protection, public goods etc etc - plus the 'right' to import relatives from back home to enjoy the same.
The only downside is the remote possibility that you might be sent back. In that case, all you've lost is a few hundred dollars.
Makes a lot of sense, right?Replies: @Olorin, @Lugash
It’s not a risk free journey. You could easily end up getting robbed, assaulted or stranded in any of the countries up until Hungary and Germany.
From the article:
So the investors actually get more interest than a CD (here 6%). But a good bit less than the 11-12% of more typical financing of that risk (given this I think it is fair to say the implied cost is higher than you quote, on the order of 5-6 %/yr of $500k, but still a great deal). It would be interesting to know the percentage of defaults–this certainly is not a CD.
There may be some extra payments from the investor to the middleman which the WSJ article does not describe making the green cards more costly to the immigrant investor than I suppose.

In much of Europe gas is $6-8 a gallon equiv so Euro makes tend to squeeze every bit of fuel efficiency out, even when it requires a trade off with reliability.

You are correct: the IQS is relatively meaningless; it’s the VDP which tells the long-term story with respect to nameplate dependability and durability.
Mercedes did indeed go through a dark period approx 1996 to 2005, depending on the model. Which is another point: a certain model (e.g. the early M-Class) can bring down the entire brand’s performance. This reminds me of college rankings…the devil is in the details, and one size does not fit all.
I don't think any of these metrics is a particularly good indicator of which car is really "the most reliable", because it depends on so many factors that are outside of the ratings system and also on what specific aspects of reliability you consider.
For example, if you look at motorcycles in terms of "years on the road", Harley Davidson is phenomenally longer than anyone else, but up until pretty recently H-D was the least reliable motorcycle in terms of breaking down. And repair costs on H-D were higher than any other brand except perhaps BMW and the Italian exotics like Ducati. But a small percent of other makes' riders do all their own work and rebuild old ones whereas with Harleys it's always valuable for parts and some biker wants another project, and indeed, there are hundreds of thousands of 1948, 1958 or 1968 Harleys titled and registered in the US that actually have few of any parts that came out of Milwaukee in that year-thay're 100 percent aftermarket parts.
Some cars stay "on the road" because people pump money into them in similar fashion. Conversely, some cars suffer from lower than expected numbers because owners disproportionately are inclined to junk them early, to postpone or neglect maintenance, or similar factors. Kias and Hyundais , for example, are often bought by people who don't maintain them and have no mechanical sense. The first Kias sold in the US were poor cars, but today they are as good as a Honda or Toyots if maintained well.Replies: @Lot

The SJW idiocy, from Merkel on down, is breathtaking. What could go wrong if we invite a flood of third-world immigrants?
They’re such good people…they just need to get away from those awful countries and come to our wonderful countries, then everything will be all better.
Really, if you think about it, those awful countries are so bad, we should bring all the people from them into our great countries to share in our bounteous wealth.
(It’s against the law to observe that it’s the people who made their countries what they are, not vice versa…)
Then, once the formerly-wonderful countries are completely wrecked, the SJWs will say we just need more money for education, and more programs, and more diversity training for the few remaining white people, and so on and so on. We’ll be about $50 Trillion in debt by then.
The only good thing is that some of the SJWs don’t live in gated communities and they’ll get raped. I guess that’s a good thing. Certainly a few million young men will need to have sex–why deny them?

German cars have traditionally had good mechanical reliability, but high repair costs, high repair parts prices and electrics not as good as their mechanicals. Those things are all still true.
German cars do have a feeling of solidity and on the average have a little better roadholding than Japanese cars, but Japanese cars have better electrics, are easier to work on, and overall certainly have a lower probability of making you late for work with car trouble on any given day than do German cars.

This is not about reproduction. There are plenty of Europeans in Europe and NA. There have never been more. The problem is their leaders have turned upon them and are hellbent on watering them down by importing masses of non-Europeans. Through their bully pulpit the elite have helped to foster this loss of confidence in their civilization that so far has rendered most Europeans incapable of mounting a defense. They’ve even managed to corrupt the religion to which a lot of Europeans still adhere to further their goals.

Thanks, res. Perhaps I should have explained more clearly why I suggested the cost to the immigrant of the “US-green-cards as price of a five-year loan” would be on the order of the foregone-alternative-investment 2% CD rate. Overall, the risk-adjusted value of all investments tends to get competed down toward the “risk free” rate.* In this case the value to the investor is in the green-cards premium, which drives the cash value of said cards (given the weird transaction rules around them– they are fungible until contracted-for but thereafter non-transferable) toward the risk-free rate on the investment capital. Note that the “6%” rate in the article is net of “middleman fees” which means much of the “interest” ostensibly paid by the real-estate developer never reaches the immigrant investor (though it is, of course, deducted as an “ordinary and necessary business expense” by the developer, who probably gets a kickback from the middleman). I also suppose that to avoid unwanted repercussions from Chinese-mafia-connected clients, the middleman spends some of his fee on insuring the loan principal.
There may be some extra payments from the investor to the middleman which the WSJ article does not describe making the green cards more costly to the immigrant investor than I suppose.

All Italian manufactured goods are works of art. From DeLonghi appliances and Olivetti typewriters to Fiats and supercars, they all have unique designs and quirks that you don’t find anywhere else. The attention to unique design and elegant style for even mundane products really sets Italian goods apart
The only European made car he thought was really any good was the Volvo.
As for Olivetti typewriters, my mother was a secretary for the Archdiocese of Toledo and had two of them, one was for Latin (which she could read and write quite well.) They were fairly troublesome and my dad bought her an IBM Selectric which replaced both via changeable type heads.
I don't think you can even buy any Italian made goods in this country anymore, besides exotic cars and espresso machines. Pretty much the same is true for French stuff. What an idiot that mayor is. Somalis are not even an asset to Somalia. They’re certainly no asset to any other place.
Clinton should have ordered them right back out.
Karen Blixen in Out of Africa (about Kenya in the 1910s) writes how Somalis were the supervisors running the plantations owned by colonialists who were freed up to party Happy Valley style with operational matters attended to.

They ma be works of art, but they are often dysfunctional. My dad was a foreign car mechanic and often talked about how bad Italian cars were: the electricals were worse than the British cars, they rusted out in no time, and while the engines were made of beautiful castings they were often a nightmare to work on. Dad worked on any and all foreign cars because back then a foreign car mechanic made twice what regular car mechanics did, but he drove Chryslers until Lee Iaccoca took over and Fords after that. His last car was a Lexus, I think it was the first or second year Lexus started selling them in the US.
I don’t think you can even buy any Italian made goods in this country anymore, besides exotic cars and espresso machines. Pretty much the same is true for French stuff. (French cars had the worst reputation of all, but Dad actually liked the Peugeot. The Renault, though, was truly terrible.)
The Peugeot 404 and 505 were outstanding cars in terms of mechanical reliability but the US dealer network was mostly run on the idea that anyone wanting a Peugeot in the US was probably a masochist desiring bondage and humiliation, and they provided it. They were made in various parts of Africa and South America and were very, very durable as compared to anything else in those markets.
They did have peculiar maintenance requirements. The rear end had a bronze gear and a vegetable based lube was required. Engine timing was set by sticking a rod through a hole in the flywheel and then using a (provided) taillight and socket in series with the points on earlier models. Doing things the Amurrican way resulted in catastrophic problems so only the dedicated DIYer or someone with a competent Peugeot specialist could keep them on the road very long.
There were other French cars. Simca, which used a licensed copy of the Ford flathead V8 up until the early 60s, was sold in the US by Chrysler dealers. Citroen was the most mechanically unique, bigger models having full hydraulic suspension, and also really post modern styling. But Renault was the biggest, and as the OP says, a really crummy car in most cases.
First, define "whites". What metrics are involved? Second, is it not up to each couple to decide whether or not they are ready for kids? Third, perhaps you ought to talk to the Heartistes of the world, who promote a lifestyle sans children.
"That is why Mammonites support immigration."
So what is inherently wrong with capitalists who desire to maximize profits and do what they want with their property? Have the "Mammonites" not earned the liberty to use their intelligence and work ethic to secure their own ways of life?
"Flooding the country with immigrants is the surest form of national suicide."
You ain't kiddin'. Tell that to the Native Americans and Africans.
"Fortunately Minneapolis has a nice white lady mayor who understands the most important thing in her city is catering to the needs of malcontent Somalis."
Neither the property crime rate nor the violent crime rate has done anything like doubling since the arrival of Somali immigrants. For example, the 2013 violent crime rate levels are roughly consistent with patterns in St. Cloud in the decade before Somali immigration to St. Cloud began, and 2013 property crime rate levels represent a decrease from the decade before Somali immigration.
"The Europeans are committing suicide through a refusal to reproduce."
So, should socialist programs be induced to procure the sufficient levels of white babies to sate your political appetite?
"The Muslims want your stuff."

Read the title of the article and the first paragraph again, tard. With just 30k of those undesirables and you have an ISIS and jihadi problem. Forget about all the welfare money used to take care of them.
OT. Here for Steve is a not so funny micro-aggression story from Oberlin: http://ace.mu.nu/archives/358976.php
The not funny part is that that these morons will be the Diversity Officers of the future.

German cars are IMHO over- engineered. Parts are insanely expensive. If you want a car that will never leave you stranded, buy a Honda or a Toyota.
It’s a cultural staple, meathead:

One of the most infuriating things lefties say about Third World immigrants is that “You’ve got to understand their culture!”, to which I usually reply “I DO understand it, and it sucks.”

Ohio’s really in the news. I was just reading Chrissie Hynde’s bio. Not much iStevish content, but a halfway decent read. I suspect if Debbie Harry ever writes hers it will be wilder. Chrissie’s voice has held up a lot better though.

“Your post is unsurprisingly disingenuous.”
Actually, it’s from the heart.
“St. Cloud is 92% white.”
Good to know. Regardless, those who state unequivocally that crime rates have risen due to the Somali presence in Minnesota is not necessarily true.
“And it is typically the second generation which assimilates to black criminal norms, so what happens there in 5-10 years is more relevant ot the crime rate.”
Any data to back up your assertion?
“In any event, the Somalis are undesirable and unneeded.”
Unneeded, I can buy that. Undesirable? Um, no.
“Americans don’t need them here and don’t want them here.”
SOME Americans.
“It has perhaps escaped your notice that America got along just fine with nary a single Somali for almost its entire history.”
Using your logic, America got along just fine with nary a single European on its shores for thousands of years.
“Any time we get militarily involved in a place, a stream of refugees is loosed and heads to our shores: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Central America, Somalia, and now Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. “
You’re forgetting the Irish, Germans, Italians, Russians, French, Norwegians, and Finnish.
“Read the title of the article and the first paragraph again, tard. With just 30k of those undesirables and you have an ISIS and jihadi problem.”
SHOULD those 30K be actually aligned to ISIS and Jihad.
I might be undesirable to them too, so as a matter of courtesy, I stay away from Somalia.

Somalis when not committing terrorism are an asset in East Africa where they are a moderately dominant trading minority.
Karen Blixen in Out of Africa (about Kenya in the 1910s) writes how Somalis were the supervisors running the plantations owned by colonialists who were freed up to party Happy Valley style with operational matters attended to.
