Everyone with a brain already knew the Empire did it. Now Seymour Hersh’s bombshell report not only details how Nord Stream 1 and 2 were attacked, but also names names: from the toxic Straussian neoliberal-con trio Sullivan, Blinken and Nuland all the way to the Teleprompter Reader-in-Chief.

Arguably the most incandescent nugget in Hersh’s narrative is to point ultimate responsibility directly at the White House. The CIA, for its part, gets away with it. The whole report may be read as the framing of a scapegoat. A very fragile, shoddy scapegoat – what with those classified documents in the garage, the endless stares into the void, the cornucopia of incomprehensible mumbling, and of course the whole, ghastly, years-long family corruption carousel in and around Ukraine, still to be completely unveiled.

Hersh’s report happened to pop up immediately after the deadly earthquakes in Turkey/Syria. This is an investigative journalism earthquake in itself, straddling over fault lines and revealing countless open air fissures, nuggets of truth gasping for air amidst the rubble.

But is that all there is? Does the narrative hold from start to finish? Yes and no. First of all, why now? This is a leak – essentially from one Deep State insider, Hersh’s key source. This 21st century “Deep Throat” remix may be appalled at the toxicity of the system, but at the same time he knows that whatever he says, there will be no consequences.

Cowardly Berlin – ignoring the nuts and bolts of the scheme all along – will not even squeak. After all the Green gang has been ecstatic, because the terror attack has thoroughly advanced their medieval de-industrialization agenda. In parallel, as an extra bonus, all the other European vassals receive further confirmation this is the fate that awaits them if they don’t follow His Master’s Voice.

Hersh’s narrative frames the Norwegians as the essential accessory to terror. Hardly surprising: NATO’s Jens “Peace is War” Stoltenberg has been a CIA asset for perhaps half a century. And Oslo of course had its own motives to be part of the deal; to collect loads of extra cash selling whatever spare energy it had for desperate European customers.

A little narrative problem is that Norway, unlike the U.S. Navy, still does not have any operational P-8 Poseidon. What was clear at the time is that an American P-8 was commuting back and forth – with mid-air refueling – from the U.S. to Bornholm island.

A positive screamer is that Hersh – rather, his key source – had the MI6 completely vanish from the narrative. SVR, Russian intel, had focused like a laser on MI6 at the time, as well as the Poles. What still cements the narrative is that the combo behind “Biden” provided the planning, the intel and coordinated the logistics, while the final act – in this case a sonar buoy detonating the C4 explosives – may have been perpetrated by the Norwegian vassals.

The problem is the buoy may have been dropped by an American P-8. And there’s no explanation of why one of the sections of Nord Stream 2 escaped intact.

Hersh’s modus operandi is legendary. From the perspective of a foreign correspondent on the ground since the mid-1990s, from the U.S. and NATOstan to all corners of Eurasia, it’s easy for someone like me to understand how he uses anonymous sources and how he accesses – and protects – his extensive list of contacts: trust works both ways. His track record is absolutely unrivalled.

But of course the possibility remains: what if he is being played? Is this no more than a limited hangout? After all, the narrative oscillates wildly between minute detail and quite a few dead ends, constantly featuring a huge paper trail and too many people in the loop – which implies exaggerated risk. The CIA hesitating too much to go for the kill is a certified red alert throughout the narrative – especially when we know that the ideal underwater actors for such an op would have come from the CIA Special Activities Division, and not the U.S. Navy.

What will Russia do?

Arguably the whole planet is thinking what will be the Russian response.

Surveying the chessboard, what the Kremlin and the Security Council see is Merkel confessing Minsk 2 was merely a ruse; the imperial attack on the Nord Streams (they got the picture, but might not have all the insider details provided by Hersh’s source); former Israeli PM Bennett on the record detailing how the Anglo-Americans killed the Ukraine peace process which was on track in Istanbul last year.

So it’s no wonder that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made it clear that when it comes to nuclear negotiations with the Americans, any proposed gestures of goodwill are “unjustified, untimely and uncalled for.”

The Ministry, on purpose, and somewhat ominously, was very vague on a key issue: “strategic nuclear forces objects” that have been attacked by Kiev – helped by the Americans. These attacks may have involved “military-technical and information-intelligence” aspects.

When it comes to the Global South, what the Hersh report imprints is Rogue Superpower, in giant blood red letters, as state sponsor of terrorism: the ritual burial – at the bottom of the Baltic Sea – of international law, and even the Empire’s tawdry ersatz, the “rules-based international order”.

It will take some time to fully identify which Deep State faction may have used Hersh to promote its agenda. Of course he’s aware of it – but that would never have been enough to keep him away from researching a bombshell (three months of hard work). The U.S. mainstream media will do everything to suppress, censor, demean and ignore his report; but what matters is that across the Global South it is already spreading like wildfire.

ORDER IT NOW

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Lavrov has gone totally unplugged, much like Medvedev, denouncing how the U.S. has “unleashed a total hybrid war” against Russia, with both nuclear powers now on a path of direct confrontation. And as Washington has declared the “strategic defeat” of Russia as its goal and turned bilateral relations into a ball of fire, there can be no “business as usual” anymore.

The Russian “response” – even before Hersh’s report – has been on another level entirely; advanced de-dollarization across the spectrum, from the EAEU to BRICS and beyond; and total reorientation of trade towards Eurasia and other parts of the Global South. Russia is establishing firm conditions for further stability, already foreseeing the inevitable: the time to frontally deal with NATO.

As kinetic responses go, facts on the battleground show Russia further crushing the American/NATO proxy army in full Strategic Ambiguity mode. The terror attack on the Nord Streams of course will always be lurking in the background. There will be blowback. But that will be at a time, manner and place of Russia’s choosing.

The part of Hersh’s narrative about the use of the Navy eliminating the requirement to inform the requisite Congressional committee of a clandestine operation is a mighty thin fig leaf, though I suppose our supine Congress will barely make a peep about it, and won’t press the CIA on its role.

Russia should feel free, then, under the “rules based” order of things to, say, take out Hoover Dam with hypersonic missiles and scuttle Norway’s North Sea oil rigs.

But just relax folks, didn’t they announce that all we need do in a nuclear conflagration is gather a few items, head to the basement, and tune in the radio for further instructions? “Gosh Wally, nuclear war sure sounds neat!” “Sure Beav, nothin’ to it! Now go brush your teeth and clean up your bedroom before Mom and Dad get home.”

Vicky Nudelman told Ted Cruz that she was glad the pipeline was now a pile of junk, just as he wanted. Even whacky Judge Napolitano is stunned that Rand Paul has said nothing about this impeachable act. They are all owned, and sleepwalking toward Armageddon. Reports say Russia is in the process of changing its nuclear first strike protocols.

The part here I find questionable is the “three months hard work” bit. Hersch is 86 years old, and this story was handed to him on a platter. Everything he writes is quite plausible, but not necessarily true. And there is no way an Average Joe in the middle of Indiana can tell the truths, the half-truths, and lies apart. Not yet, anyhow.

“Somebody” is clearly spinning the story. I’m sure the Big Picture as presented by Hersch is correct, but the details can matter.

George W. Bush started the desirability of Ukrainian and Georgian accession into NATO. The US-backed 2004 “Orange Revolution” in Ukraine brought to power President Viktor Yushchenko who put NATO accession at the top of his foreign policy even though it was in clear contradiction with the country’s Declaration of Sovereignty of July 16, 1990.

Before this, Bush unilaterally tore apart the ABM Treaty and started to build a global strategic missile defense system, including its position site in Europe which was seen by Russia as a threat given the NATO weapon’s strike capabilities.

George W Bush was also in Florida reading “My Pet Goat” September 11, 2001.

  21. Pro Wrestling on all sides. All short term means, all short term ends. A Russia doing what it “can do”. And that is as brilliant as can be expected from the underdog [Russia]. Journalism, journalists [telling example: Alexander Mercouris et al. sucking up to the established names and conventions, leads and terminology to make their misery arguments to the contrary] leading by their own ignorance into predictable ignorant and passive public responses [i am convinced that the simple message is the only one that is consumable anyhow, so it does not matter]. The accent on passive. The new normal across the globe. No single player having any ambition and appetite for progress. A people’s world, elephants in mini-skirts, teckles [short legged dogs] on high heels, not a world of ideas or ambitions. A planet sold out. The Jew at the top? Look at the picture, who else [Hersh?]. It is the Jewish mindset of shapes and colors, interior decoration, architecture all over the board, from Moskva to Washington and back over the Pacific to Paris and Brussels. It is the tools, they are scaled to disproportionate impact, it’s the brains as bird-like as ever. Medieval period in history, Bruegel and his glorious human landscapes were way more colorful without the pyrotechnics.

Point made: P. E. sees composure Russia, sees advantage Russia, we do not, we see a poker game between factions of Few and the further domestication of the masses. A minor difference. Not worth mentioning. Not of any meaning [it is what it is, come time, and empirical probing as ongoing and finally the Few will get it, and find more intelligible, predictable, sustainable, selective/discriminate ways of herding, and culling the “Negro” of the first, second and third world]. For now, from localized overload, the planet is going to containment of a single bulging, flabby, and now obese human blob].

The driving factor of the above: the tools and the scaling of their impact has outgrown for now any intelligible thought-experiments, ideas, lab-conditioning. Truck-drivers, and construction workers, pan-handlers, ravens looking for bling, rule the world.

China saw this coming a long time ago. Right after China bailed out US from the 2008 financial crisis, it thought Obama would work with China. Instead, just a figurehead of the neocons, Obama, prolific community organizer, started his Pivot to Asia. To contain China. It was also the time when the US started to support terrorist acts in Xinjiang to stir up sh4t. That was the turning point. The neolibs/cons will not play fair. Putin knows now.

Xi came into power right after that. China started to prepare for the coming decoupling. It started to build up its military, sped up its technology self reliance, built alliances outside US’s circle of influence. I am sure at that time, China also started to modernize and stockpile its nuclear weapons. I will not be surprised if China now has more than a 1000 nuclear warheads. Beginning in 2012, Kazakhstan, the 2nd largest uranium reserve in the world, increased its uranium export to China by 100th fold. At the same time China also started to gradually decouple from the US financial system. It was also the start of China-Russia joint military exercises. At the same time the construction of the “Power of Siberia” pipeline started. It came online in 2019. When Trump got elected, China and Russia were hoping for a fresh start with the US. Even with Trump’s tariffs, China was hopeful that Trump can work with China to come to a win-win solution. Then came Biden who doubled down. That was it.

Before Russia invaded Ukraine, I am sure Putin briefed Xi about it at the Beijing Olympics and confirmed that China will not side with the US and China will buy more of Russia’s petroleum and gas. Two more pipelines are in the works.

Sy Hersh’s blog is very significant. With the internet and social media, unrestricted information flow, the US is now officially a rogue country in the eyes of the world. Biden, Sullivan, Blinken, Nuland and cohorts should be arrested for treason and act of terror. Then again, it is kind of late. Arica, South America and much of the Global South are no longer taking the US seriously.

You needn’t lose any sleep over it Mudge.

No entity (or collective of entities) on the planet has the ability to seriously weaken Russia (unless China flips and aligns itself with the dark side – and that’s not going to happen until hell freezes over).

Everything that has transpired during this proxy war has strengthened Russia, and demonstrably weakened the Anglo Zionist empire.
Of course, ZOG’s fortunes are tied to the fortunes of the double-headed hydra (U.S and U.K), so the demise of these two pariah states (economic implosion and subsequent carnage in the stock/bond and real estate markets of said countries), will mean the demise of ZOG.

Barring escalation into a nuclear conflagration (exceedingly unlikely), things will end much better (for the world) than you imagined.
Not such a good prognosis for the U.S and U.K though, as both descend into the abyss.

I dunno, Nordstream 2 would’ve made some serious moolah for Russian and European companies and governments, and when the Swiss company that was under contract to finish it pulled out due to threats of ever greater U.S. sanctions, the Russians finished it at considerable expense, gambling that the Germans would license it and turn it on.

That’s the point where they could laugh, as you say, watching the idiot Europeans bicker and fight among themselves about whether to open the spigots or to bend over for a reaming by the U.S..

A positive screamer is that Hersh – rather, his key source – had the MI6 [London] completely vanish from the narrative.

It won’t take any time at all, because as Escobar already knows, it’s the “Jews”/Cousinhood out of the City of London (which Putin has already let be known would be among the first targets in a nuclear war). The same “Jews”/Cousinhood that has been pulling strings in the Anglosphere in the (fake, plastic, ZOG-infected) “Modern Age” forever.

Who knows, maybe opposition to the war will grow, as it did during the Vietnam War. But back then there was an unpopular draft with many soldiers coming back in body bags each week, and it still took several years for opposition to reach a critical mass. For three hours Yanukovich cajoled and bullied anyone who pushed for Ukraine to have closer ties to Russia. A handful of deputies from his Party of Regions complained that their businesses in Ukraine’s Russian-speaking east would suffer if Yanukovich didn’t agree to closer ties with Russia. That set him off.

“Forget about it … forever!” he shouted at them, according to people who attended the meeting. Instead the president argued for an agreement to deepen trade and other cooperation with the European Union.

Some deputies implored him to change his mind, people who attended the meeting told Reuters. Businessmen warned that a deal with the EU would provoke Russia – Ukraine’s former master in Soviet times – into toughening an economic blockade on Ukrainian goods.Yanukovich stood firm.

“We will pursue integration with Europe,” he barked back, according to three people who attended the meeting. He seemed dead set on looking west.

Less than three months later Yanukovich spurned the EU, embraced Russian President Vladimir Putin and struck a deal on December 17 for a bailout of his country. Russia will invest $15 billion in Ukraine’s government debt and reduce by about a third the price that Naftogaz, Ukraine’s national energy company, pays for Russian gas.

Yanukovich was told by then EU it was either or and he balked But he was overthrown.

  61. Eagle Eye says:

There are a number of details in Seymour Hersh’s story that make no sense given publicly known technology in 2022 – see detailed analysis at link below.

In particular, the claim that a sonobuoy had to be laboriously air-dropped into the Baltic to transmit the trigger signal to the pre-installed explosive packs seems dubious. Allegedly this was necessary to ensure that a random underwater noise did not trigger the explosives.

Underwater communication systems using sound, with sophisticated and solid error correction algorithms built in, have been commercially available for many years, and millitary models are no doubt even more sophisticated and custom-made for just this type of operation after decades of ongoing development in response to military and commercial demand, e.g. for deep-sea oil drilling. Frankly, it seems that Hersh got creative and ended up over-egging the pudding.

A number of other details seem inconsistent with publicly available information. For example, Norway’s P-8 are operated by the Norwegian Air Force, not its Navy, and did not enter service until after the NS explosion. Indeed, why involve the Norwegians at all in a super-secret operation? Norway is not a Baltic country, nor is there any need to drop a sonobuoy from a highly visible military airplane, rather than quietly e.g. from a fishing boat. There was plenty of lead time and currents in the Baltic are quite predictable. The only real reason to involve Norway (and other Nato countries such as the UK and Poland) would be to create a quorum of collaborators.

Politically, the effect of Hersh’s piece is to take the pressure off American vassals who were likely involved, including the UK, Poland, Denmark, and zombie-controlled Germany itself. That may be the real aim of the new story. It is quite conceivable that Hersh became an unwitting or witting conduit for yet another propaganda operation.

When faced with murky situations like this, it is often useful to consider an ancillary question: Which countries must know what happened, and who did it? Given known intelligence (sigint and humint) capabilities, at a minimum the following know exactly what happened: U.S., UK, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Russia.

I don’t know what the point is to relativize Hersh’s text.

“Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus” was a useful maxim developed by an earlier civilization during a period when it was still going strong.

Why is Hersh spouting off about technical details that are obviously fictitious and could have been verified through simple enquiries, but were not? Either Hersh was fed this information and did not check it, or Hersh himself is fabulating. In either case: what else is Hersh fabulating about that may be less readily detected by outsiders? Hersh’s error/falsehood puts us on notice that there is something squirrely going on.

Everyone agrees that the US (Pentagon and/or CIA) organized that explosion …

No doubt the U.S. “organized” the explosions. But if “everyone agrees” on this already, what exactly does Hersh’s great disclosure add to our knowledge? The real objective of Hersh publishing his piece at this time – creating his own Substack account for this purpose – is to (1) distract from likely involvement by the UK, Poland and possibly Germany itself in the planning and execution of the action, and (2) conversely, to drag in Norway.

Norway obviously stands to gain financially from becoming a virtual monopoly supplier of non-LPG natural gas to Western Europe, and in fact opened a pipeline to Germany almost simultaneously with the demise of NS 1 and NS 2. For Norway to take an active part in sabotaging a pipeline supplying its most important European NATO partner seems inconsistent with Norway’s traditionally low-key stance. On the other hand, Norway could have been inveigled into participation by a cabal made up of warmongers in Oslo in cahoots with Germany’s genocidal Green’s and their trans-Atlantic sponsors.

… with the knowledge of Biden.

Is the personal “knowledge of Biden” even ascertainable at this point?

It is known that someone from the Baltics assisted in this. What difference does it make if the Norwegians did it …

Nice try, but Norway is still not a Baltic country. On the other hand, alone among the old NATO members, Norway has an actual land border with Russia, which traditionally has encouraged caution in international affairs while maintaining strong NATO ties.

and the Poles gave them jet fuel or vice versa?

Nice try at misdirection – why are you suddenly introducing jet fuel as a red herring? Or is this an unintentional slip?

Does it fundamentally change anything in the whole story if it is established that something was thrown from a boat and not from a plane.

Yes. It betrays falsehood in a key detail

that Hersh treated as important …

Again, “falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus.” Look it up.

What is the significance of this or that box being thrown into the water?

You tell me. Hersh himself decided to give great play to this detail. WHY?

The relativization of Hersh’s text is an attempt to create confusion, …

Yanukovich was out for getting Ukraine the best deal possible and seeing that it was likely to go over to the West via an economic deal with the EU that had military cooperation conditions attached Putin offered Ukaine a great deal, which Russia gas was a big part of, that is why Yanukovich changed his mind. However, Yanukovich found that Ukraine (steered by the loud nationalist in it) did not want to be with Russia any more, and he was ousted.

Following all this Russia decided to bypass Ukraine with the NordStream 2 pipeline, which would enable cutting off gas supplies to Ukraine (NordStream2 been completed but not came on line when the war started), while still supplying Germany. Ukraine hated Nordstream2. The point is that once Putin decided on a full scale military action in Ukraine, and turned off the gas supply to Germany, the Germans were not going to be customers for direct supply of Russian gas, certainly not while Putin remained in the Kremlin.

In my opinion, Putin decided that having the pipeline there would tempt his successors into cooperating with the West in the hopes of restarting the gas trade. So he decided to destroy it. That is far more likely than the US doing it . The idea Biden okayed NS2 as a cover story to later blow it up is silly. America defends Germany for free, so Germany has to do what it is told. And I am afraid Putin said the other day at a televised security conference that it was Ukraine who destroyed the NordStream 2 pipeline.

I’m from that era and left college (which I hated) to join the army after they changed to the “birthday” lottery in 1970 and I received a low draft number, though I could have kept my 2-S deferment until I graduated. In basic training there were many college grads in my company who were drafted. They lost their student deferments after they graduated, which was the policy all along.

The change to the birthday draft in 1970 had nothing to do with increasing mass protests, which began in earnest when Johnson was president. In fact, when the draft was ended in 1972 (under Nixon) and they switched to the current all-volunteer army, the protests dissipated dramatically even though the war was still going on. I’m not aware of any evidence which proves that college educated students were more likely to protest and refuse to be drafted than those who didn’t go to college.

Ukraine had been part of Russia/USSR for centuries. Under the USSR eastern Ukrainian industry was tied, body and soul, to Russia. The EU’s DEMAND to break with Russia was a deliberate provocation, when Yanukovich wanted Ukraine to be intermediary between the EU and Eurasia ie Russia et al. The EU’s vicious austerity measures would have afflicted the east, Yanukovich’s majority power-base, as well. As I said, deliberate, as Euro CIA ‘assets’ like Bildt and Sikorski helped prepare and train the fascists for the Maidan Colour Revolution.
Once again you make apologies for a fascist putsch, organised by the USA against a democratically elected President, one who had agreed with treacherous EU diplo-thugs, to have early elections. Your CIA-prepared and controlled Banderite fascist darlings were having none of that, so organised sniper killings from Banderite occupied buildings around the Maidan and then a concerted effort to murder Yanukovich, so he fled.
Your ‘Ukraine’ is the fascist West, and they LOST the Presidential election to Yanukovich, which is why, after the fascist putsch, Crimea broke away, democratically, as it had been trying to do since it was Anschlussed in 91, and why the Donbass defended itself against your fascist friends, and kicked their arses at Debeltsavo. Your ‘theory’ as to why Putin destroyed Nordstream is sub-moronic shite, but I suppose your controllers demanded something more than usually febrile for your latest cheque. Is objective journalism another illusion?
“Objective Journalism” is a projected word spin (in hope & despair?):
Is the journalist not the subject(ive) viewer reporting (time scripting & projecting) about object(s) / (proprietors/properties)?
If so, the subject naturally possesses the quality of subjectivity, otherwise it would not be able to report about object(s) and/or objection(s).
Every journalism is the mingling of subject with the object. “Objective journalism” is the building housing journalists. Out of such a building subjects project all sorts of subjective views on objects.
Since everything dies, there can never be objectivity, (because the object is dying too).

Supremite(or Supremacist-Semite) US works the same way. If you want the ‘protection’ of NATO, you better do as NATO demands…. or else it’s BLAM.

I fail to see how such tactics could work with Germany. Anyway, they did not because Germany :-
1 Refused to have Ukraine join Nato in 2008

2 In 2011 brought into operation the NordStream1 pipeline bypassing the Ukrainian network that was the conduit for Russian gas from being sold for good prices to countries in the West, and thus gave Ukraine some leverage against Russia. Being direct from Russia to Germany without crossing countries like Poland it took the potential complete lock those countries had possessed over the Russia Germany energy trade and had used to get good deals on gas from Russia.

3I In 2021 Germany completed a second pipeline the NordStream2 pipeline, which doubled the gas they got from Russia.

    In the article Escobar says:-

Cowardly Berlin – ignoring the nuts and bolts of the scheme all along – will not even squeak. After all the Green gang has been ecstatic, because the terror attack has thoroughly advanced their medieval de-industrialization agenda.

The German strategy was to deindustrialise the other countries of Western Europe by means of the EU single currency making their goods cheaper than they otherwise would have been with Germany’s high cost labour. The energy came from Russia so was cheap too. Germany was also doing great business supplying capital goods to China, which is why Biden dropped his opposition to NordStream 2 coming on line (the US needed Germany to help pressure China, America’s real competitor).

Germany has a subliminal fear of all things nuclear as a hold over from the Cold War. Their phase- out of civil nuclear power was not Green at all, it was deep seated loathing of anything that could lead to Germany having thermonuclear weapons. The proof of this is that Germany is producing more greenhouses gases as a result. There are also defended out of the pocket of US taxpayers while entirely cocooned within the borders of friendly countries for the first time in their history. Germany deindustrialises the West two ways: by selling capital goods to China. and via the EU single market and currency area. America ought to have told tell subtle mercantilist and blatant freeloader Germany to defend itself and suggest they get nuclear weapons to do it. The Ukraine would not have been having all these troubles if it had its own nuclear weapons to rely on instead of worthless ‘guarantees’ from Nato countries and Russia.

America is not going to make money from selling energy to Germany because American shale energy is heavily in debt and unprofitable when sold at prices that would enable Germany to continue with its manufacturing exports strategy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbTr6LgefHA
