An English friend recently learned about the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) plan to either kidnap or kill journalist Julian Assange and quipped “I’ll bet he’s happy to be safe and sound in Belmarsh Prison if he has a chance to read about that!” I replied that his time in Belmarsh has been made as demeaning as possible by an English judge and the British are just as capable of executing a Jeffrey Epstein suicide or “accident” if called upon to do so by their American “cousins.” He agreed, reluctantly. Indeed, the roles of American allies Britain and Australia in what is turning out to be one of the world’s longest-playing judicial dramas has been reprehensible.
For those readers who have missed some of the fun of the Assange saga, a recap is in order. Julian Assange, an Australian citizen who was living in London, was the Editor in Chief and driving force behind Wikileaks, which debuted in 2006 and was one of the alternative news sites that have sprung up over the past twenty years. WikiLeaks was somewhat unique in that it often did not write up its own stories but rather was passed documentary material by sources in government and elsewhere that it then reprinted without any editing.
Assange attracted the ire of the ruling class when he obtained in 2010 a classified video from an unidentified source that showed an unprovoked 2007 shooting incident involving U.S. Army helicopters in Baghdad in which a dozen completely innocent people were killed. The government’s anger at WikiLeaks intensified when, in 2013, Edward Snowden, a National Security Agency contractor, fled to Hong Kong with classified material that demonstrated that the U.S. government was illegally spying on Americans. WikiLeaks also reportedly helped to arrange Snowden’s subsequent escape to Russia from Hong Kong.
The bipartisan animus directed against WikiLeaks intensified still further in the summer of 2016 when the group’s website began to release emails from the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton’s campaign. The immediate conclusion propagated by Team Hillary but unsupported by facts was that Russian intelligence had hacked the emails and given them to WikiLeaks.
It was perhaps inevitable that Assange’s reporting, which has never been found to be factually inaccurate, was in some circles claimed to be based on information provided to him by Russian hackers. Even though he repeatedly denied that that was the case and there are technical reasons why that was unlikely or even impossible, this led to a sharp Russophobic response from a number of intelligence and law enforcement services close to the United States. Assange was charged in Britain in November 2010 on an international warrant demanding that he be extradited to Sweden over claims that he had committed rape in that country, an accusation which later turned out to be false. He posted bail but lost a legal battle to annul the warrant and then skipped a preliminary hearing in London in June 2012 to accept asylum in the Ecuadorean Embassy, which has diplomatic immunity. He stayed in the Embassy for eighty-two months, at which point a new government in Quito made clear that his asylum would be revoked and he would be expelled from the building. He was preparing to leave voluntarily in April 2019 when police arrived and he was arrested on a charge of his failure to appear in court seven years before which was regarded as “bail jumping.” He was sent immediately to Belmarsh high security prison, where Britain’s terrorist prisoners are confined.
After his arrest, Assange continued to be incarcerated due to a U.S. Justice Department extradition request based on the Espionage Act of 1918, apparently derived from possible interaction with the Chelsea Manning whistleblower case. Assange has now been in Belmarsh for 29 months in spite of increasing international pressure asserting that he is a journalist and should be released. The British have hesitated to extradite him on the basis of the evidence produced by the U.S. government, which included the claim that Assange aided the former U.S. Army analyst Manning break into a classified computer network in order to obtain and eventually publish classified material, but they have likewise failed to release him. The British judge denied extradition in January, suggesting that if he were to be returned forcibly to the U.S. he would likely commit suicide, but she also denied Assange bail as he was considered to be a flight risk. The U.S. appealed that verdict and the next hearing is scheduled for the end of October. It should be noted that no evidence produced by the Justice Department has plausibly linked Assange to the Russian intelligence services.
Which brings us to the Yahoo news revelation regarding the CIA plot to shoot, poison or kidnap Assange while he was sheltering in the Ecuadorian Embassy. It goes something like this: in 2017, Assange’s fifth year in the Embassy, the CIA debated going after him to end the alleged threat posed to government secrets by him and his organization, which was still operating and presumed to be in contact with him. WikiLeaks had at that time been publishing extremely sensitive CIA hacking tools, referred to as “Vault 7,” which constituted “the largest data loss in CIA history.”
In an April 2017 speech, Donald Trump’s new CIA Director Mike Pompeo said “WikiLeaks walks like a hostile intelligence service and talks like a hostile intelligence service and has encouraged its followers to find jobs at the CIA in order to obtain intelligence. It’s time to call out WikiLeaks for what it really is: a non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russia.” It was a declaration of war. The label “non-state hostile intelligence service” is a legal designation which more-or-less opened the door to non-conventional responses to eliminate the threat. CIA Stations where WikiLeaks associates were known to be present were directed to increase surveillance on them and also attempt to interdict any communications they might seek to have with Assange himself in the embassy. A staff of analysts referred to as the “WikiLeaks Team” worked full time to target the organization and its leaders.
At the top level of the Agency debate over more extreme options prevailed, though there were legitimate concerns about the legality of what was being contemplated. In late 2017, in the midst of the debate over possible kidnapping and/or assassination, the Agency picked up alarming though unsubstantiated reports that Russian intelligence operatives were preparing plans to help Assange escape from the United Kingdom and fly him to Moscow.
CIA responded by preparing to foil Assange’s possible Russian-assisted departure to include potential gun battles with Moscow’s spies on the streets of London or crashing a car into any Russian diplomatic vehicle transporting Assange to seize him. One scenario even included either blocking the runway or shooting out the tires of any Russian plane believed to be carrying Assange before it could take off for Moscow. Pompeo himself reportedly favored what is referred to as a “rendition,” which would consist of breaking into the Ecuadorian Embassy, kidnapping Assange, and flying him clandestinely to the U.S. for trial. Others in the national security team favored killing Assange rather than going through the complexity of kidnapping and removing him. Fortunately, saner views prevailed, particularly when the British refused to cooperate in any way with activity they regarded as clearly illegal.
So Assange is still in prison and what does it all mean? The only possible charge that would convincingly demonstrate that Assange was spy paid by Russia would be related to his possibly helping Chelsea Manning to circumvent security to steal classified material, but there is no real evidence that Assange actually did that or that he is under Russian control. So that makes him a journalist. That he has embarrassed the United States, most often when it misbehaves, is what good journalists do. But beyond that the disgraceful CIA plans to kill or abduct Assange as an option to get rid of him reveal yet again the dark side of what the United States of America has become since 9/11.
More to the point, getting rid of Assange will accomplish nothing. He worked with a number of like-minded colleagues who have been more than able to pick up where he left off. He has been largely incommunicado since he has been languishing in Belmarsh Prison and it is his associates who have continued to solicit information and publish it on their site. Mike Pompeo’s unapologetic response to this assassination or kidnapping story was “They were engaged in active efforts to steal secrets themselves, and pay others to do the same …” Of course, if all that were true Mike and the government lawyers have had an opportunity to demonstrate just that in a British court. They couldn’t do so and instead promoted the easier option of just killing someone for publishing something true. And assassination is a blunt instrument that rarely accomplishes anything. One recalls that in January 2020 Pompeo certainly participated in the assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and Iraqi Militia Leader Muhandis in Baghdad. What did that accomplish apart from turning a nominally friendly Iraq hostile to the U.S. presence?
Or, as Assange’s lawyer put it more to the point, “As an American citizen, I find it absolutely outrageous that our government would be contemplating kidnapping or assassinating somebody without any judicial process simply because he had published truthful information.” Unfortunately, that is not all that the Assange case is about. It is not just a question of truth or fiction and journalistic ethics, but rather an issue of the abuses enabled by powerful men who believe that their power is unlimited. That is the real abyss that the United States has fallen into and the only way out is to finally hold such people, starting with Pompeo, accountable for what they have done.

assange is a strange case and i’ve heard many versions of him depicted as a hero, others as a stooge of israel and mole giving up his sources that end up dead or in prison. his lack of support for 9/11 truth makes me wonder but i really don’t know what to think in this new age of manufactured reality.
Just a clarification — Assange didn’t flee TO Russia but was stopped in Russia en route. A minor distinction, but one that further weakens the narrative of Russian involvement.

Another “not needing to have a trial” situation exists because the cost of a legal defense is itself the punishment and the deterrent. The charges are baseless, and the case will eventually be dismissed. But meanwhile, your attorney has gobbled-up your assets. Make no mistake, parents considering protesting at school-board meetings: Your future attorney’s paradigm for case-management is: complex, expensive, drawn-out, and hostile. Some conservatives are saying, uh oh, you could face “a knock on the door from the FBI.” Garland does not have in mind a knock on the door followed by a stern reprimand.

i’m not accusing him of anything, i said there have been accusations. i am most troubled by his lack of support for 9/11 truth and refusing to acknowledge seth rich as the source of the dnc email leak. before you go off on protecting his sources i’ll remind you seth rich is dead, seems to me if he really wanted to protect his sources he would reveal this fact.
I get the impression he’s still in prison. I don’t know his mental state now, given his apparent high stress situation. That can break a person, perhaps lead to cognitive or memory problems. I find it absurd that he has ever aided Israel, however.

Seth Rich was likely his source. Maybe he’ll reveal that before the US kills Assange. I doubt he has given up sources, but Assange seems at times naive. Maybe he has made a mistake. The more I think about the anti Assange propaganda, the more I think its origin and continued maintenance comes not from state concern over a private actor violating a law by exposing the corruptions of some state Actors; the more I come to believe Assange exposed private actors doing business as states or secretly doing business with states, in ways which, were were corrupt or in ways that pointed to the use of government to accomplish non government objectives?
Exposing privately owned actors and their private influence (lobbyist and government contracts) with governments and exposing the ways in which these various corruptions were being conducted, as a theme, better fits the Dreyfus like treatment Assange has experienced by the influence controlled nation state than anything else I can think of.
Imprisoned without charges. even after sentence served, and even prosecution without charges, is not a normal. Even letting Assange rot in prison is not normal. The Asaange Affair is not normal. It suggest the powers keeping Assange in prison until he dies is not the nation state per see, but instead represents influence on the state by actors(corporations and private individuals) close to the state.
Persons with strong private lobby and contractor influence with the governments involved might be responsible for keeping Assange in prison until he dies. Assange whereabouts is not a secret. Governments are free to convict him, but none have really come forth. Maybe the Assange Affair it is all about something non criminal, Assange offended some private actor in a strongly offensive and pernicious way, and the private actors want Assange blood in revenge ?

Seems to me Assange exposed the activities of private for profit entities and the interactions of those private entities with persons located within certain departments of governments. His expositions did not expose the governments themselves, as far as I can remember, but instead, Assange exposed corrupt activities that involved private use of the nation state, or corrupt actors within the state use of private parties, to accomplish non state objectives.
In other words, Assange’s exposure journalism, cost a lot of people, a lot of would-be-profit and cost those people a lot of cover up money. The exposures Assange threatened the deep state, the hidden government. the dark political secrets of private parties doing business with the secret government, the corrupt business of government contracting, etc..
The article doesn’t mention anything about Assange fleeing to Russia. If my memory serves correctly, it was Snowden who was helped to get to Russia and after a short stop was accepted into the country.

I don’t know why anyone would assume Seth Rich was a good guy. What is actually known about him, is that he was a Jew involved in Democrat politics, so a member of the worst sub-group of the worst group in the country. If he was offed on the orders of Democrat higher-ups, it’s a lot more likely that it was because he was blackmailing them in a bid for more money and power than because he was secretly fighting for good.

This is a silly article, so I assume Mr Giraldi is asking the question on behalf of his CIA masters in order to test public opinion (the CIA not having any brains left itself). Assange is too well known to bump off and there no convenient dark alleys about in which to do it. If some obvious sort of hit occurred to him even the brain-dead leftard journalists would be all over it. Additionally the suffering would finally be over for the dead Assange, and nobody in the USMIC/Deep State would prefer that. Even the Romans knew that you don’t want your crucifixion victim to die quickly. The punishment for insurrection must be slow, long-drawn out, public and painful. So at the moment I’d say it’s working out well for them. The optimum time to do him, if any, would be the day before he is released.
If hopefully Assange was to regain his freedom, then one may wonder where he can go to. He would be in great danger. They could assassinate him anywhere. Ironically Russia or may be even China would be the safest places for him.

Given an opportunity to dismiss charges what did Biden and the UK do? Absolutely nothing. The Soviets were good at such Show Trials, but the US is much better! 95% of those charged with felonies take plea bargained Guilty verdicts because they know the judicial system is fixed, and unless you are Rich or extremely well connected (like Epstein is his first Florida trial, and every high US Government official), you may spend your life in jail, standing on principle, or take the 2 to 10 years. Read about ANY of the trials of whistleblowers prosecuted by Obama;, John Kiriakou is a good example as he wrote about his trial, or Steven Donziger more recently. These are AMERICAN political prisoners just like Assange.
While much has been made of financial/economic inequality, fundamentally more important is Equality Before the Law. We have a two tiered justice system where dissent from “our bettors” and empty threats from ignorance or frustration can get you more jail time than burning down a small business or beating some Asian half to death for walking on the street.

First if all, if Assange did not understand the danger he exposed himself to by first publishing what he published, then either he was extremely naive, and gullible, or he believed he was somehow magically protected.
I predicted( to myself only), back when the footage from the US helicopter first emerged, that he was now a target of the Pentagon and all the rest, and that he would probably be assassinated or imprisoned within a few years.
For me, nothing that Wikileaks ever published was a surprise , it was all just “par for the course” info, nothing more.

Never (or rarely), do we get to hear/read of a proposal by them to abolish the CIA ( or the 10s of 1000’s of other, entirely unconstitutional US government depts, and to shrink the US government back down to its original, clearly stated, extremely limited, functions.

As mentioned in a previous post, for me, this revelation that the poisoning of Assange was being considered by the US government, casts a very different light on the Skripal poisoning.
In the event that they were going to go through with the plan, US was undoubtedly going to place blame for the poisoning on Russia. The light poisonings of the Skripals was used to create a precedent with the Russians as antagonists, after which they would have poisoned Assange and repeated the frame-up.
The Russians’ motive would have been that they were trying to erase the tracks which connected them to Assange.

That informant, “Siggi” Thordarson, was arrested in Reykjavik on 9-24, and is now in Iceland’s highest security prison. The article, written by Joe Lauria, explains that this pedophile was granted immunity by the FBI in exchange for (false) testimony against Assange.
What effect, if any, will that have on the US case against Assange? Or on the UK illegally holding him in prison? I hope that Mr. Giraldi will address this new development shortly.

Because I believe that his virtual imprisonment is a hoax that he is complicit in. I’m not an expert on this case, so I could be wrong here, but there certainly have been cases where espionage agents pretended to be enemies of governments that in reality they served. For example, Kim Philby pretended to be an AntiCommunist while in reality being a Soviet agent. I believe that there have been cases of espionage agents serving false prison sentences in order to keep up the charade.

It’s a mafia state. Assange was a real whistleblower and revealed the truth of what was taking place to those who would listen. The rest are fake, the MSM is a complete propaganda loudspeaker. The difference is the lowly mob would never destroy countries or kill and displace millions while the US mafia state does so on a grand scale.
I have much admiration for the courage and the work of Julian. I believe the US administration hasn’t shown that the documents published through Wikileaks have compromised the security of the US or are a form of espionage aimed at damaging the US interests.
The extent of the leaks rather points to very poor security within the agencies themselves. If you leave your precious assets unattended, don’t be surprised if someone else grabs them. If the security of the leaked documents had been taken seriously by the federal agencies with proper security classification, need to know requirements, document access and duplication monitoring, then the documents wouldn’t have been leaked.

There are two dimensions to the problem treated in this very incisive article. CIA officials bear responsibility for murder, torture, arbitrary detention and other crimes in international criminal law. Pompeo as DCI manifestly bears command responsibility for these systematic and widespread crimes. The DDO and scores of officers also bear criminal responsibility. US refusal to accept command responsibility makes the country a despised Neanderthal throwback in the transnational space.
In universal jurisdiction law, individual responsibility of CIA criminals is complemented by state responsibility for internationally wrongful acts in breach of jus cogens. The US command structure – CIA – has arranged impunity in municipal law. That makes them the state. US “National security” is nothing but a bunch of legal pretexts for manifestly illegal acts. One such pretext is secrecy permitting ultra vires crime. Another is sham direction by CIA’s presidential puppet rulers like the bribed and blackmailed vegetable Biden. The CIA command structure bears responsibility for restitution, compensation with interest and satisfaction. When the SCO gets fed up with CIA Neanderthals in power, the SIS will swing and the reparations will make the Treaty of Versailles look like a parking ticket.
There’s no stopping US state crime without dismantling the CIA regime and trying its official criminals. Your government is a criminal enterprise and you’ve got to shitcan it. Or else a nuclear-armed alliance will do it for you. Regrettably, COG provisions disperse the CIA command structure amid the civilian population, using major cities as human shields. So if CIA doesn’t go quietly, a lot of their subject population will get incinerated. That’s how CIA wants it – they’re holding you hostage.

Do we know the explanation for the anamolies of Oct/Nov 2016? Assange seemingly disappeared, lost his twitter handle, Wkileaks staff supposedly were arrested or scattered, the twitter account reappeared but linked to somewhere else, etc.
